Focusing On Pest Control

Your Mice Infestation Guide

There are many pests that can get inside your home. One or two bugs here and there isn't a cause for alarm, but a mice infestation can become a nightmare fast. If you believe you might have mice, keep reading to learn more.

What Attracts Mice?

Any pest likes food, water, and privacy. Water may come from standing water like your pet's water bowl, but mice will also drink water from a leaking faucet or pipe. They'll eat any food they can, including your pet's food, but they'll also get into any food you leave out and open.

Mice don't want to be noticed, so they'll stick to the shadows. They may hide in cabinets, in walls, under floors, etc. They may wait until no one is around before they scurry around your house. Other factors that may increase the risk of mice include:

  • Plants near the house
  • Holes in the exterior of the home
  • Open windows
  • Tree branches leading to vents

What Are the Signs You Have Mice?

Naturally, if you spot mice, you probably have mice. However, since the mice tend to hide, you may need to look for signs of mice infestation. This includes mice droppings and gnawed materials, foods, packages, etc. There may also be an unpleasant odor from the mice, droppings, and rotting mice bodies.

Finally, many people with mice spot grease lines on their walls or floor. The mice tend to walk the same paths, and they leave a streak of grease behind from their fur. Over time, this grease builds up to a dirty streak.

What Are the Complications of Mice?

There are tons of problems mice bring. First, they can bring in disease, including rabies. Not only can they spread disease, but their fleas may carry other dangerous diseases. They may also carry parasites, and if your pet eats the mouse or affected droppings, they can get infected.

Mice may also destroy parts of your home. They may burrow into insulation and chew on various materials. In severe cases, they may gnaw on electrical cords, which can increase the risk of a fire.

How Do You Get Rid of Mice?

You can help prevent mice by keeping your house free of standing/leaking water and food. Sealing the house blocks any holes and gaps that serve as entryways for mice. However, if you already have mice, it may be best to contact a professional.

Mice traps may only get a few stragglers, and chemical killers can be dangerous if used incorrectly. A professional can get rid of the mice, and they may even find out how the mice entered the home, so you can fix the problem.

Some people may think mice are cute, but mice invading your home can be a nightmare. Mice carry disease and fleas, and they can destroy parts of your home. If you want a quote on wild mice removal, contact a pest control company today.

About Me

Focusing On Pest Control

After dealing with bug infestations in my home for a few years, it occurred to me that I had to do something to make things right. I began thinking about all of my available options, and I realized that working with a professional pest control contractor was one of my best bets. I talked with them about the kinds of bugs that I was finding in my home, and they were really helpful. They came out, sprayed, and even applied some protective treatments around the outside of my house to deter future issues. I wanted to start a blog all about pest control, so I made this website. Check it out.
